Roca is the chef-owner of El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain, widely regarded as one of the world’s most memorable dining experiences. In 2013 and 2015, El Celler de Can Roca was named the World’s Best Restaurant, and it currently sits in the number three position on this global list. Roca himself is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking explorations and experimentations with new cooking techniques, including playing a major role in helping to pioneer the widespread use of sous-vide cooking in the 1990s. Roca is also a brand ambassador for Estrella Damm.
The Estrella Damm Gastronomy Congress will feature a live cooking demonstration by Roca, followed by an engaging discussion about modern gastronomy between Chef Roca and top Toronto chef Grant van Gameren. Previously held as an invite-only industry event, tickets to the Estrella Damm Gastronomy Congress will be available for sale to the public for the first time this year.
“When August Küntzmann Damm set up his brewery in Spain in 1876, he created a highly innovative beer - lighter than central European beers and uniquely suited to the Spanish climate. Estrella Damm is still brewed using that original recipe, known today as a Mediterranean lager beer,” explains Dave McFarlane, Ontario Sales Manager for Estrella Damm. “That’s why we’re so proud to celebrate other leading culinary innovators at the Estrella Damm Gastronomy Congress. Toronto is in for a particular treat with Chef Joan Roca, who is undoubtedly one of the most innovative people working in food anywhere in the world today.”
Tickets to the event, which will run from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Toronto’s Crow’s Theatre (345 Carlaw Avenue) are on sale now at gastronomycongress.eventbrite.ca. Early-bird pricing is $45 per ticket - prices increase to $60 as of May 1.
